George Chestnut Odon super athlete of late 1920’s. Played pro ball with Wooden. Also pro baseball!

Received this email from David “Dude” Chestnut about his great uncle George from Odon High School. Impressive info. Dave graduated from North Daviess in 1981. His brother, Mike, was a 1975 graduate of ND. Both good basketball players and athletes. If you know them, you will for sure see them in the picture of their uncle below!! Hope to post some stories about George here and on our FB page!

Dave,

Just wanted to pass along some information on my great uncle, George who graduated from Odon HS in the late 20’s and continued his career at ISU.

He played professional basketball for the Indianapolis Kautsky’s and was teammates of Johnny Wooden. Played professional baseball too for Dayton and Zanesville, he was a pitcher and teamed up with Johnny Vander Meer…
Had a very interesting career and life.

During his Hall of Fame induction at ISU, there was a historian there that couldn’t believe that he wasn’t in the Indiana High School Basketball Hall of Fame.

I have several newspaper articles etc., etc.

Just thought I’d share a few things with you.
